Brian Chua (pictured) is a chemical and process engineer with extensive knowledge in renewable and sustainable technologies. He has been involved in numerous renewable projects on green roofs, solar thermal, wastewater treatment and biofuels.
Brian is a Brisbane-based accredited Green Star Professional of the Green Business Council of Australia. He is passionate about renewable technologies, green property development and social media.

Brian is founder and director of Treepads.com, an innovative start-up real estate classified website in Australia.
Brians proposed R&D in 2010 integrates solar photovoltaic (PV) cells with greenery“ green roofs and green walls.

He will be outlining his future plans at some of the half-day lectures in Australia in February, 2010. His initial research was done as part of his thesis at The University of Queensland in 2009.

Preliminary results suggest that Solar PV cells have the potential to improve its overall efficiency by 10% to 25% during the summer months in Brisbane. However, the findings of this research are only specific to South East Queensland.

The next stage of Brians research is to investigate the performance of solar panels in different cities around Australia, to test improved solar power with greenery use under different climates Australia has many climate variations and this research will attempt to quantify the potential financial improvements at each major city.

Brian Chuas research is being supported strongly by the newly-formed Green Infrastructure Network Australia Inc (GINA Inc.), in the organisations Green infrastructure Educational Shed project at Carindale, south-east of Brisbanes CBD.

The firstœGreen Shed will be built in the first half of 2010 by a group of in-kind and cash supporters of the Rotary Club of Carindale. About $85,000 has been raised for this community help project, which is expected to cost about $125,000 with simple displays of green roofs and green walls, with allied solar power, improved water harvesting, storage and micro-irrigation use, and food from the roof.

OtherœGreen Sheds are proposed in Brisbane and surrounding areas, and will be offered to Rotary-supported groups connected with GINA Inc.
