By October, 2012 Gina expects to have about five such "Green Shed" projects set up in and around Brisbane, perhaps with cooperation of local Rotary Clubs and Brisbane City Council. The Rotary Club of Carindale has already raised about $85,000 in in-kind and cash support for the Carindale "Green Shed"(which should be opened in mid 2010). Three-hour courses for ratepayers and full day courses for built environment professionals, will be offered a small fee. Rotarians will probably provide free, one hour lectures and inspections for high school classes. If Rotary succeeds in the Brisbane project, it could perhaps with international help become an international research and demonstration project of the World Green Infrastructure Network. 2. Organising of the "Cities Alive Australia" World Green Infrastructure Congress 2012, to be held in Brisbane, Qld, Australia form October 17 to 21 2012. Venues in the Brisbane Conference and Exhibition Centre. This congress will feature much green infrastructure research and development in Australia and from around the world, plus green wall and green roof research from Australia and other hot-dry countries. The congress in 2012 is hoped to attract up to 2,000 to 2,500 people in Brisbane. 3. Organising half yearly, half day lecture events on green infrastructure. The first, in February 2010, is on urban greenery to improve solar energy production by 10% to 25%. The lecture series will have a strong emphasis on local research projects for improved urban greenery for Australia's hot-dry climate. |
